    Stuttgart Craft Beer Festival

This started as a lazy Sunday, and surprisingly cold for the middle of April. But after finishing the movie we’d started the night before, Edin and I decided to check out a Craft Beer Festival at the Nordbahnhof. We also checked out an artist colony in the area, and even a cemetery.

    Bruchsal & Stumbling Stones

Stumbling Stones are placed in front of homes that were taken from Jewish families who almost always were sent to concentration camps. I was honored to be able to observe the laying of stones for 5 families.

  • Switzerland

    Switzerland

The first word that comes to mind about this trip to Switzerland is…. EXPENSIVE. Maybe you thought I’d say beautiful, and it definitely was, but it was also a little cloudy this weekend so it doesn’t get top billing. Zermatt was lovely and other than a few random train rides, we had a great weekend.

    Iceland

January 2017 When my friend invited me to go to Iceland in January, I was leery.  It’s the Arctic Circle in the middle of winter!  But she said it was the best time to see the Northern Lights, and another friend wanted to go also, so I acquiesced.  Although I always thought Iceland would be interesting,…

    Colmar and Riquewihr

In a mad dash to see as many Christmas markets as possible before they close for another year, I joined my friend Alyssa amd visited  two markets in France.  These pictures really can’t convey how beautiful these two towns were in real life – we were in awe. The drive from Stuttgart to Colmar took…

  • Paris

    Paris

October 2017 I was fortunate enough to get to go to Paris for work.  I attended meetings at L’Ecole Militaire on Monday through Wednesday, but took the train to Paris on Saturday to spend the weekend there.  I had only been there once before more than 20 years ago (you should just assume I was…

  • Christopher Street Day (CSD)

    Christopher Street Day (CSD)

July 29, 2017 In the U.S. this would be equivalent to a gay pride parade.  I saw a sign that said something like, “Christopher Street was a riot, not a party,” so I decided to look it up.  Interestingly, although it’s a European LGBT event, it was named after an event in the U.S.  From…

  • Marienplatzfest

    Marienplatzfest

Friday, 21 Jul 2017 In the summer there’s a festival every weekend, it’s just a matter of finding them.  On this particular weekend, I went to 2 festivals in downtown Stuttgart and was able to experience the different vibes of each festival.  This one was a smaller fest in a plaza but with a large…

    Sunday Bike Ride in Stuttgart

After getting my mountain bike serviced, I was finally ready to take it out for a spin.  I live on a fairly steep hill, so I brought my bike on the train to check out a park downtown near the train station (Schlossgarten).  I had great weather and the park was lovely – best told…
